FAQ'S

What is body sugaring? Body sugaring is an ancient art of hair removal using a completely natural paste made from lemon, sugar and water. It looks like honey, but is even thicker. The paste is molded onto your skin against the direction of the hair growth, then quickly flicked off – removing the sugar paste, extracting your unwanted hair, and collecting dead skin cells.  This ancient hand technique that allows for the hair to be extracted in the direction of it’s growth means less breakage and discomfort for you! It’s more sanitary and reduces waste because there are no sticks or strips.

How should I prepare for my sugaring appointment? Ensure skin is free of any excess oils, lotion, deodorant or any other skin care products on the area of the skin to be sugared. Do not exfoliate the day before, the day of or the day after treatment. For best results hair should be at least 1/8 of an inch long (length of a grain of rice), usually two weeks growth. 1/4 inch for leg sugaring treatments. If you are pain-sensitive, it is recommended to take a painkiller 30 minutes before your appointment.

Can I be sugared if I have been using Accutane or Retin-A? Clients who are on or have been on Accutane in the last six months cannot be sugared. Accutane shuts off oil glands, which can cause lifting of the skin that could damage and scar skin. If you are using Retin-A or any other topical cream for acne, you cannot be sugared on the areas where the cream is applied.

If I am menstruating, can I still be sugared? Yes! You can still be sugared during this time. For a Brazilian or Bikini Plus service, wear a tampon, tuck in the string, and we can easily complete the appointment.

How long does sugaring last? Typically, body sugaring hair removal lasts about 4-6 weeks. Hair growth varies from one person to another. The more consistent and regular you are with appointments, the better results you’ll achieve. There are some factors that affect hair growth; medications, genetics, hormonal changes also varies from one person to another, etc. We recommend appointments every 4-6 weeks to get the best results.

What do I need to do after my sugaring appointment? Your pores are clean and empty after body sugaring, and you want to keep them that way until they close again, which is typically around 24 hours. Do not exfoliate for 24 hours after sugaring. Avoid tanning booths/beds for 24-48 hours after sugaring. No bathtubs, swimming pools, or hot tubs. Showering is fine, but not too hot. Avoid anything that is going to irritate the skin/pores such as tight clothing, exercising, and sex. Exfoliation is key. Exfoliate and moisturize your skin at least 2-3x weekly between treatments.
